Favorites from 2015

I'm actually excited for this year to be done. It's been a fantastic year to say the least. Crazy packed with excitement and fun. And as far as my photography goes it has been my best year yet! Despite the fact that I can count on my two hands the number of shoots I've actually done this year, they have been my best batches yet.
I'm excited to work even harder in the coming year to improve the nitty gritty sides of my businesses...excitement might not be the best word used in this particular case. But overall I am so excited! And once I smooth things out and strengthen those rough areas I believe that ideas will spark and flourish like never before. And that's exciting to me!

With all that said here is a recap of my year through the art I've been privileged to make with some amazing people!

Brenna was amazing during her senior shoot. I told her I wish she was going to be a senior next year so we could do this again. But hopefully we will find another excuse to capture this beauty! See her whole shoot here!

Rachel Jones is a makeup genius. Please keep that name in mind cause she is going to take over the styling world very soon.

Ahh part 2 of Cara's modeling portfolio. We missed the rain by ten minutes and got some of the best photos we could have hoped for. Though Cara made my job so easy we were bound to hit gold.

To wrap up I wanted to share some B&W's of the three girls I nanny for. This is my third year watching them and I've gotten to capture bits of their growing up and man is that a crazy thing to experience! It's bittersweet to watch the girls grow older cause of how drastically different each year gets. We went from snuggling and reading books everyday after school to rushing out the door the minute they get off the bus to scramble to 2,816 activities.
As important as these girls are to me I am reminded when I look at these photos just how important photography is to me, but also how crucial it is in general.
I start to get discouraged at the fact that there are so many photographers out there. I ask myself, am I really needed when thousands and thousands of people are doing the exact same thing as me?
I actually just asked myself that last night while I lay awake in bed. And I am answering myself right now with a huge YES. Yes I am needed because these three girls are precious gifts from the Lord and if my only job, as far as photography goes, was to capture their beautiful lives growing older and wiser and more gorgeous each day that goes by then yes it would be worth my time and energy to be a photographer. Because some people do photography because it can make really good money. But a real artist will make, create and capture because we don't want to miss out on life and ourselves. Some people will look at their work and see money symbols. Others will look at their work and smile with pure joy.
Have I mentioned how excited I am for 2016?

David

My main man, David Tran!
This guy though! What a model. This has to be one of my favorite shoots to date.

David works at the VMFA(Virginia Museum of Fine Arts). It's such a beautiful, modern, artistic place. So naturally we took the mission to shoot his senior portraits there withought running into any coworkers. We just barely failed that mission... But with an artistic guy, me and my hopes of making art from my mind to my camera, I think we got some real winners.

We went out at golden hour so the light was magnificent. Painters had their easels out, friends enjoyed dinner together, and dogs walked their owners. It was such a beautiful evening.
And I got to spend it with an energetic, down to earth, hype on life, Jesus adoring, goofball, and we had a blast I tell you!

David is seriously one of the best guys I know. He works so hard but with such a serving attitude all the time. That is such a rare thing these days. He is a friend to everybody. I've never heard him say one bad thing about someone. He is always lifting people up which is a direct result of his relationship with Jesus. I just love that so much!

Even with a desire to make the most out of life by being with his friends and family as much as he can, he told me something that kind of blew me away. He skipped his senior homecoming....Like what? But he explained to me that he's never positively influenced at events like that and thought his time would be better spent that evening in a low key setting. That. Is what I'm talking about. How mature is that? This stuff is what makes him so cool and unique. He marches to the beat of his own drum. I love this guy. David wins!

Now! Check out his senior photos!

Sometimes I have my clients lay on their face to wrap up their shoot.
I like those kinds of clients.
